Free energy check for sport and leisure
Is your club or leisure centre paying too much for energy?
The energy used by pools, floodlights, showers and gym equipment soon adds up, often at the busiest times of day. We compare your energy costs with current market prices, and then a specialist will ring to explain where you stand.

Where a leisure site's energy goes
Leisure sites tend to use energy in big, uneven bursts, with quiet mornings and packed evenings. When you use it can matter as much as how much you use in total.
Pool heating
Heating the pool hall and the water, and ventilating the hall, uses most of the energy at a pool.
Showers and changing rooms
Hot water is needed for every session, every day.
Floodlights
Floodlights run for evening training and matches through the darker months.
Gym equipment and ventilation
Machines, air handling and cooling keep running throughout opening hours.
Three things worth checking
When you use electricity
On some contracts, electricity costs more in the early evening, which is exactly when clubs and gyms are at their busiest.
VAT for charities and small sites
Sites that use very little energy are automatically charged a lower rate of VAT, and registered charities can qualify for it on some of their use. If your clubhouse is quiet for most of the week, it's worth checking that your bills reflect this.
Your standing charges
If a site is only used a few evenings a week, the fixed daily charge makes up a bigger share of the bill.

Questions clubs and leisure sites ask us
Our club is a registered charity. Do we pay less VAT on energy?
Possibly, for the energy your club uses for activities it doesn't charge for, which HMRC treats as non-business use. It depends on how your club uses its facilities, so your specialist will look into it.
We only use our clubhouse a few evenings a week. Does that matter?
Yes. Sites with very low use are charged a lower rate of VAT automatically, and standing charges make up more of the bill when you don't use much energy.
Can you check our water as well?
Yes, if your club is in England or Scotland. Showers and pools use a lot of water, and one check covers electricity, gas and water.
Will switching interrupt our supply?
No. Your supply stays on during the switch, and the only thing that changes is the company that bills you.
